Generation Gap

Hi ladies...I haven't posted anything on here FOREVER because I don't ever feel like I have anything too exciting to say. Then I realized that I can tell you whatever I want! hehehe

So we got a new computer with some of our tax return-it was time! Our old one was going on five years & could barely handle it when I tried doing any digi scrapping. As soon as the money hit the bank it was good bye old & hello new! The best part is that the "old" computer still runs great for the girls to play all the free online kids games!! I feel a little spoiled though because both computers are set up right next to each other & it looks like we are just greedy people who think they need two computers. Anyway...I was super excited to put my PS4 software on the new computer and start cranking out pages. I popped the disk in, started the download & right at the end got a little message that said something about the install having errors that might affect the performance of the program. I tried to uninstall & reinstall it but had the same problem. I figured I'd try to open it up and see what happened.

SUCCESS! It worked fine and I was able to do 2 pages. There were a couple of things that it wouldn't let me do & I figured that was the errors it had warned of. Then, one day I was doing a speed scrap & decided to do an extraction on a couple of pictures. It took me a while & I finally had everything done & ready to save when the program froze, shutdown, and erased all my work!! I. was. so. pissed. I restarted everything and tried one more time, but my poor old photo shop and my new computer were just having too much of a generation gap to see eye to eye on things.

A few days later I hopped on Adobe's website and signed up for my free trial version of PS8. WOW-it is amazing at how similar it seems, but how different it works. I am having such a hard time learning to work my way around & I have attempted 3 speed scraps & been so frustrated with all of them that I just give up! I was able to re-do the page I had attempted with my old version (the one with photo exctractions), and was really happy with my result. However, it took me twice as long to scrap it than it normally would have. Not knowing how to navigate around makes it so hard to want to scrap & even harder to keep the creative juices flowing! And, to top things off my free trial ended today and I still feel like the new version is so confusing. I started looking around and pricing it out figuring it will just take time and practice to get more comfortable with it and the cheapest I could find is at Costco and it still costs $80.00!!! I am so bummed! I guess I'll have to start saving my pennies. What do you guys scrap with?

So I don't know much about computers but it seem like there should be some kind of software you can download that would make your old PS work on your new computer. I used PS7 for a really long time and that this is OLD, like 10 years old. I stole it from my little sister who used it when she was in high school (so maybe it's not 10 years old but it's old). Then my sister-in-law bought CS3 and let me download it to our computer too and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It did take me some time to get use to it but once I did it was like heaven. So much eaiser and so much faster. Do you use elements? I've never used elements before but I've heard it's great. I knew a girl who used gimp and loved it. It's free to download and suppose to work like PS.

I scrap with Photoshop CS3. Anytime I have to upgrade though it takes some time to get used to it. I wouldn't suggest trying to do that during Speed Scraps!! HAHA Those are stressful enough as it is!

Just be patient. Try to watch some online tutorials from YouTube or other sites with the version you use.

I know Costco sells Photoshop Elements. People really love that and I think its cheaper. I don't know!
